Mission Knives manufactures the TA probes (Take apart probes) that are a Non-magnetic humanitarian demining EOD probes, made from titanium. Mission’s objective in building the EOD probes is to give the operator the best of all possible odds. It is harder to make a mistake with a probe that does not over flex or break when you are probing for a mine. The current “suicide sticks” (made out of plastic, carbon fiber or fiberglass fishing rods, aluminum, wood, etc.) bend, break and give the operator an unclear “feel” when locating mines. Other vendors use a much cheaper titanium rod stock and process to lower the cost of manufacturing in order to produce a Mission type product. Titanium is a non-magnetic, non-corrosive, tougher that steel, and will not break in subzero temperatures. Because of these properties, titanium is the ideal material to find sub-surface mines in the safest fashion. Mission has designed these titanium probes to keep the operator alive. The screw together TA EOD Probes have been a real success for demining operations, especially for influence mines. Thousands of these probes have been sold to the US military and are available in two models: the TA-1 and TA-2. These two models are identical except the TA -2 has knurling on the individual pieces which makes for easier disassembly in the rain, snow, and mud, or with gloves on or while under water. The newest TA probe sets are the TA-3 and the TA-4 probes which is the same 0.260Dia. titanium probe (parts are interchangeable) but all of the components store within the handle for ease of storage and transportation that can be worn on the belt, or carried in a load bearing vest pocket, or on the Mission knife sheath along with the Mission titanium knife like the MPK (NSN 1386-01-417-1263)
